Work Injuries And Chiropractic Care: Getting You Back On The Job

A workplace injury can be devastating, not just in the pain it can cause, but in the financial toll it can take on you. Even with worker’s comp, your finances may take a hit if the resulting pain makes it difficult or impossible for you to do your job like you once did. Luckily, Dynamic Chiros can help you regain most or all of your mobility again, without pain, in order to get back to work.

Work Injuries In The State Of Washington

Work injuries in Washington State are covered by the Department of Labor and Industries. As such, Dynamic Chiros is registered with the state to be able to treat patients with L & I claims. Mostly commonly, we deal with workplace injuries having to do with strains in the neck and back, carpal tunnel syndrome, and slips or falls while working.

What Causes Workplace Injuries?

It doesn’t take much to injure your back while on the job. Lifting or moving objects (not necessarily heavy) can cause strain in the back and neck muscles — especially when done with poor form. Another way injuries can occur is simply from poor posture, such as slouching or not evenly distributing weight with both legs.

Repetition of movement is another common way people injure themselves on the job. The job itself may not be terribly strenuous, but when done over and over again over the course of weeks, months or years, it can degrade the muscles and joints associated with the movement. And, while often overlooked, psychological and emotional stress can manifest by tightening the muscles, making them prone to injury.

Even something that people don’t associate with chiropractic care should be evaluated by a chiropractor. While carpal tunnel is a wrist issue, chiropractors have the knowledge and experience to help treat it and bring you back to full working order.

Treating Workplace Injury Pain With Chiropractic Care

Like many other types of pain that brings patients to a chiropractor, you will most likely receive (after a consultation and evaluation), a spinal manipulation, also known as a spinal adjustment. In this methodology, your chiropractor will apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint to help bring it back into proper alignment. Sometimes one treatment is enough, though often you’ll have to receive several over a prolonged treatment plan.

This is effective not just in the short term, but in the long term as well. Approximately 10 percent of patients with work-related lower back pain will experience a second pain episode, but those who opt to go with chiropractic care (and complete the treatment plan as laid out by their chiropractor) are much less likely to endure the pain a second time around, enabling them to get back to work and stay at work.
