The shoulder is the only major joint in the body that relies solely on muscles to hold it together, which is why its range of movement is so much greater than most other joints. But this muscular connectivity is also what makes the shoulder tough to treat. The most common cause of shoulder pain is an injury to the rotator cuff — a place where four muscles (the supraspinatus, infraspinatur, teres minor and subscapularis) come together.
While traditional medicine has its place in shoulder pain treatments, chiropractic care has shown promising results over the past several decades. Because shoulder pain is mechanical in nature, your chiropractor — an expert in the treatment of altered biomechanics in the shoulder — will prescribe a treatment that works to correct the associated shoulder mechanics.
Dynamic Chiros takes the treatment of shoulder pain very seriously. When a person’s shoulders are injured, nearly every arm movement can cause mild-to-excruciating pain. We’ll take every measure to evaluate the source of your pain and help determine the best course of action for treatment.
It starts with a noninvasive consultation and examination. Your chiropractor will examine the afflicted area, as well as your spine, to see what the cause may be or if your spine is out of its proper alignment. If necessary, you may be referred out for an X-ray, MRI or other form of diagnostic test.
Without the use of dangerous and potentially addictive pain medication, Chiropractors are able to perform gentle and noninvasive therapy: a chiropractic adjustment. In doing so, they are able to reduce joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine and other joints to help reduce inflammation in the shoulder and improve the overall function of the joint and the nervous system. And when joint mobility is increased and more normal function has been restored to the nervous system, the body can better manage the symptoms that underlie shoulder pain.
When working with a chiropractor to treat shoulder pain, you can experience reduced pain and discomfort, decreased inflammation, improved flexibility and range of motion, and increased strength.
Your chiropractor will also observe the way you hold yourself, both when at rest (standing and sitting) and while in movement. The way you sit is especially important, as people who sit for long periods in front of a computer tend to hunch themselves, which rolls the shoulders forward and inward toward the chest — a precursor to shoulder pain. A chiropractor may help you achieve proper posture, which itself may help alleviate your shoulder pain.
Chiropractors are trained and capable of treating a wide variety of shoulder pain causes. While the rotator cuff is the most common, chiropractic care can be beneficial in the treatment of:
● Bursitis
● Shoulder tendonitis
● Frozen shoulders
● Pulled muscles
● AC joint sprains/strains
● Shoulder contusions
● Slap lesions
● Supraspinatus tears
● Shoulder separations
● Rounded shoulders (due to poor posture)
The chiropractors at Dynamic Chiros are fluent in many forms of pain relief through chiropractic care, and we can apply our expertise toward your specific shoulder ailment. You’ll notice a difference after a single visit, and if you follow the prescribed treatment plan of stretches and future chiropractic adjustments, we can help you regain the pain-free life you had before the shoulder pain started. If you’re ready to eliminate the pain in your shoulder, just give us a call to set up a consultation.
