Subluxations Are What Chiropractors Treat.

To simply visualize what a subluxation looks like, visualize a nerve being pinched or stretched.  Technically, a subluxation is spinal misalignment or locking of the spine that causes an alteration of the neurologic function of the body thus decreasing the healing potential of the body.

Subluxations can exist in the neck, midback, lower back, and extremities. If you cut off the water supply to growing grass, do you think the grass would continue to grow? Of course not. The same is true with the body. If we alter the neurologic supply to the body’s tissues (lower back, neck, heart, lungs etc), then we alter the way those parts of the body function. Subluxations alter normal neurologic function and hence the reduction or elimination of subluxations help normalize neurologic function. When the body has normal neurologic function, it has the best chance of repair and regeneration. A subluxation can have five pathologies to the body that help to identify it. Kinesiopathology, histopathology, myopathology, neuropathology, and pathophysiology are the types of changes to the body that help to identify subluxations.

  • Kinesiopathology: identified by a motion palpation examination of the spine
  •  Histopathology: identified by xrays typically, blood test or MRI
  •  Myopathology: identified by palpation, visualization, and surface EMG
  •  Neuropathology: identified by reflexes, dermatome testing, and thermography

Pathophysiology: identified by checking organ dysfunction.

Subluxation can cause a wide range of effects to the body such as neck and back pain, headaches, migraines, weak muscles, indigestion, arthritis, immune system problems, sexual dysfunction, dizziness, and even hearing problems.

Subluxations can be identified at the segmental level and the global level.  Whether the subluxation is identified at the segmental level (Ex: C2 on C3) or on a global level (Ex: Cervical spine has a loss of normal lordosis),  the componenents listed above still apply.
