Pregnancy

What does pregnancy do to a woman’s body?

Many women experience an increase in lower back pain with being pregnant. Carrying a child can cause an increase in the lumbar curvature and thus cause extra pressure to the sensitive nerves in the lower back. Have you tried walking around with an extra 30-50 lbs on your body lately? In increase in weight causes extra compression to the knees, ankles, hips, and spine. The extra compression causes swelling to the joints and nerves and can cause back pain, sciatica, leg pain, numbness, hip pain, knee pain and ankle problems.

How can chiropractic help pregnant women?

Chiropractic adjustments and chiropractic stretches help create flexibility in the body. The adjustments help the body flush out the swelling in the spine and decompress the joints of the spine. This all results in a decreased pain. Some of the other benefits of chiropractic care and pregnancy are better birth outcomes, increased quality of life, and decreased blood pressure. When should I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?

We recommend getting your spine checked periodically throughout your pregnancy. If you nervous system has pressure on it from an unhealthy spine, then it can cause an array of dysfunction and complications. After giving birth, it is extremely important to get your spine checked so that you can heal appropriately. It does not help the healing process if your hips are out of alignment. Adjustments help align your hips and thus reduce stress on your lower back.
