Disc are the cartilaginous structures between the bones of the spine that act as shock absorbers for the spine. They also dictate the motion of the spine. Disc are not well supplied with blood, and therefore have a slower healing process than a muscle. Disc can become decayed, swollen, weaken and bulged, and even torn. Chiropractors are trained at detecting disc problems and applying conservative treatment for disc problems. We typically restore normal function to the spine and those reduce them mechanical stress on the disc. In the case of a bulging disc, chiropractic is best able to help by restoring proper motion to the spine above and below the bulge with an adjustment. We typically apply traction to disc and rehabilitation to the supporting muscles and soft tissues. This allows there to be less stress to the bulging disc itself and thus allow for a faster healing of the affected disc.
