What is an adjustment?
A Chiropractic adjustment is the use of a specific force in a precise direction that helps normalize spinal function. There is wide range of techniques for applying this force. The adjustment is typically applied to a joint that is fixated, “locked up”, or not moving properly. We use a wide range of techniques including by not limited to diversified, motion palpation, Gonstead, Thompsons drop, Activator, Toggle Recoil, NIMMO, and a wide range of stretching techniques. The adjustments help return the bones to a more normal position or motion, allow normal function of the nervous system and thus help restore the body’s natural healing ability.
What does it do?

Specifically, muscle spasms reduce, blood flow is increased, mechanical nerves are stimulated, and pain receptors are inhibited.
What do adjustments feel like?
Most patients feel as sense of relaxation in their muscle tension. Many will feel a boost of energy from a release of endorphins in their blood stream. One of my patient says that he is ready to “tackle the world” after his adjustments. If there in pain being generated from the “locked up” joints, most patients have an immediate relief of pain.
Is it safe?
Absolutely! We have a lot of parents that bring their children in for adjustment in order to correct their spinal problems before they become permanent. The research has been done on the risk of being hurt from an adjustment compared to other conventional medical treatment, and the stats are alarming. For instance, a New Zealand government study found that chiropractic adjustments are 100 times less risky than taking over the count pain relievers!
Why an adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments get at the cause of the problem. Too often, we turn to pain killers to mask the symptoms. Studies show that if we want to become healthy nation, we must change our approach to achieving health. The days of taking unnecessary medications and performing unnecessary surgery for our physical aches and pains are over. Eat right, exercise, sleep well, and get adjusted!
